Sand Mountain Sams
We are the Sand Mountain Sams of North Alabama. Most of us live on or near Sand Mountain, but many of our members are scattered all around North Alabama.
Most of our Camp-outs are in the North Alabama area, but we also travel to the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
My favorite is Gulf Shores. The shoppers have Foley and all the outlet stores. Fair Hope is about a half hour to the west and is one of my favorite towns anywhere. The Gulf Shore State Park Pier has some of the best fishing anywhere, I've caught Flounder, Whiting, Speckled Trout, Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Jack Crevalle, Red Fish, etc etc.
Every year each state has a large gathering called a Samboree. Samborees have been around almost as long as the Good Sam Club itself. They were the brainchild of the Good Sam Club founder, Art Rouse shortly after he began building our organization. Each state and province hosts at least one Samboree a year. They range in size from small about 100 rigs in smaller states to about 500 rigs in the larger states.
Most Samborees feature a daytime program that offers complimentary seminars, vendor area, games, and nightly entertainment. State and Provincial Directors are the ones who run the Samborees along with lots of help from their volunteer staff. Some Directors make arrangements with local RV dealers to display new and use rigs for you to tour, while other Samborees might have rig-decorating contests to celebrate a particular theme. You sometimes will see a costume contest, parades, dog shows and interesting tours of area attractions.
